Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon

Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon would be the titanic's worse nightmare. Okay, that was dark. But it is basically a stunning, large body of water full of icebergs in every shade of blue.

The lagoon formed as Breidamerkurjokull glacier started to melt, and it continues to change and get larger as time goes on. I can see why it attracts tons of people every year. The frosty haven is so peaceful and beautiful, it deserves to be a computer screensaver

If you're coming from Reykjavik, go over the bridge and there is a free, gravel parking lot on the right and left side. We parked in the right lot and walked under the bridge to get our first glance at the lagoon.

As we were walking, we noticed a group of seals (A school of seals? A herd? I don't know the actual term) swimming in the frigid water and riding on the floating icebergs. I squealed. It was the ultimate playground for them.

We walked right down to the water's edge and then took a short gravel path up above the lagoon for a different angle. I was surprised that there weren't that many people! We must have gotten lucky coming in the later afternoon as there were no tour buses.

We spend probably about 30-45 minutes here, then made our way over to Diamond Beach
