WINE. Yas. --Stellenbosch

I had such a good night sleep last night and the breakfast this morning was the best it has ever been. They had everything, including an omelette bar. I ate about everything in sight. After that we waddled out to Marvin for the last time to head to our wine tasting at Spier. Before arriving at Spier, we headed into the town of Stellenbosch to do some exploring. Kaede Ray and I walked around together. We walked all the way down one road that had barely any shops, we did find a cafe though where we both tried a fudge and marshmallow warm milkshake. I had never heard of a warm milkshake, but it was quite delightful! Then we headed down a different street and found where all the shops were hiding. By this point we were running out of time so we were quickly popping into the stores that looked super interesting. We made it back on the bus at the last second to head to Spier. It was absolutely beautiful at this winery. There was a giant pond with a mountain in the background- very scenic.

We went inside and had 2 white and 2 red wines to taste. The first white wine, a chenin-blanc, was very nice. It was light and sweeter, which is the type of wine I like. I absolutely hate red wine so I kind of wanted to throw up with the reds. Following the tasting, we were offered to do a chocolate tasting. Couldnt pass that one up. We were given 3 different chocolates and 3 different wines paired up together. You would take a sip of the wine, bite into the chocolate, then sip the wine. The first one was great, but the other two chocolates were spicy. Yes, spicy. You could smell the herbs in them, which is not my type of chocolate, but I’m glad I tried them.

From Spier, we were headed for Cape Town where we ended our journey with Nomad. We cleaned out Marvin and said our goodbyes. It was very tough to say goodbye to Boyd, Cardi, and Daniel because they weren’t only the best tour guides ever, but they also became our friends. It’s always sad not knowing when you’re going to see someone again.

Next Stop: Hout Bay; Once we loaded all of our stuff in a van, we headed to Hout Bay where we are going to stay the next week in a house. It is a nice house, but there is no heat. On another note, by this point we were starving. We headed down the street to a local pizza joint. Little did we know that this would become our daily favorite place. I had an order of bruschetta and a pizza margherita. It tasted like the real Italian stuff. From here we went to the Spar (grocery store), and almost witnessed a fight break out, but we made it back safely. Once in the house I took a hot shower and watched Gossip Girl with Crysten.

xoxo,

Em
