Fat Cakes--Malealea, Lesotho
This morning when I got up it was pitch black. Remember? No electricity until 5pm-9pm. You don’t think about the morning, but when you get up super early it is dark. So we had a candlelit breakfast. How romantic! Today we went for a walk through the village of Lesotho. We bought fruit at the grocery store earlier to bring to the children in the village. Immediately after exiting the gates to our campsite, we saw Lesotho’s business district. It consisted of a bunch of shacks on the side of an unpaved road.

We went into one of the shacks and they were selling “fat cakes”. They are basically fried pieces of dough. Like a funnel cake without the sugar on top. So we gave them some business by buying some fat cakes. They were only 1 rand. ONE RAND. That is 10 cents. We all bought some extras to give to the kids as well. It was crazy how happy these children were when they saw we brought them something. They were smiling and sprinted to us. You could tell they were malnourished. It made me feel so blessed. They are literally running for 1 apple whereas sometimes I will turn down an apple. Makes you think twice!

We walked around some more and then turned back. The walk lasted about 3 hours. After coming back we ate our tuna salad sandwiches Cardi made us. (our “mommy”) They were delish! Following that you could decide if you wanted to hike or go on a pony- I chose hiking. Which I, myself, am shocked I chose considering the last straight up hill hike. We went to a waterfall though. I definitely asked it the waterfall would be flowing this time though before I started the hike. And boy was it flowing! It was a gorgeous waterfall! Plus the hike wasnt that bad at all. It was downhill to actually get there, but then on the way up was a struggle since it was more uphill, but I survived!

After returning to the camp Kaede Ray, Michael, and I all got a post workout drink of Amarula and hot chocolate. So good!
